NIAS at the 2022 Your Local Club Academy Games

The Northern Inland Academy of Sport travelled to Wagga Wagga to compete at the 2022 Your Local Club Academy Games on the 9th and 10th April, hosted by the Southern Sports Academy. NIAS was represented by over 70 selected athletes  from the Basketball, Golf, Hockey and Netball squads who and joined over 1300 athletes from the Regional Academies of Sport based throughout New South Wales for the competition.

NIAS is very proud to compete in the Academy Games each year with the support of the South Tamworth Bowling Club. All squads competed to a high standard across the weekend and represented the region positively.

Overall, it was a successful weekend, with the girls Hockey squad finishing in second place (going down to the Metro Academy in penalty shoot outs). The boys Basketball squad were close to making the grand final, but finished in third place - a fantastic effort for a team of only 7 due to previous injuries resulting in some individuals being unable to attend the weekend.

This was the final on-field component for the Hockey and Basketball squads, with Netball taking a break until block 3, and the Golf program set to have two more training weekends. The Hockey and Basketball squads will next be together at the end of the year for the 30 Years of NIAS Celebration and the Annual Awards Night - both taking place on Saturday 29 October.

The Southern Sports Academy will once again be hosting the Academy Games in 2023 on April 21,22,23 - Last weekend of school holidays.

Congratulations to all athletes that represented the Academy at the 2022 Your Local Club Academy Games!
