As the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to develop, NIAS is closely monitoring information and advice being provided by relevant Government authorities including NSW Health and the Office of Sport, with the purpose of ensuring all activities and practices of Academy athletes and staff meet the best standards of health and safety.  With consultation from above organisations, it has been decided that upcoming NIAS events and activities be either cancelled or postponed.

After having discussions with NIAS staff, other sporting academies across NSW, sport governing bodies, and UNE in Armidale the following has been confirmed:

- UNE Life Skills Education Weekend 21st-22nd March – Postponed

- Netball High Performance Camp 21st-22nd March – Postponed

- Rugby League trials 21st March – Postponed

- Your Local Club Academy Games – Cancelled

- Squad training sessions from now until at least Easter (applies to ALL NIAS squads) – Cancelled

We understand the inconveniences this may cause however the health of our athletes, their families and the wider community is very important to us. We will be revising the above on the 27th April.

What’s next for NIAS athletes??

Until this review occurs, we are currently working towards providing valuable alternative methods of delivery for squad training sessions to align with limiting social contact as suggest by the government. This will include using online tools such as education information, online learning activities, delivery or updates on strength and conditioning programs and potential additional content from the state governing body for individual sports.

Please see the attached statement from Regional Academies of Sport for an  update on our current situation.
