NIAS Mount Bikers Compete at Tamworth Mountain Biker's Dusk 'til Dark Event
NIAS athletes attended Tamworth Mountain Biker’s Dust ‘til Dark event off the back of three weeks of weekly twilight club racing and their first Regional Training Session.
We’ll get started with athlete Louis who took the challenge of the 3hr event as a solo rider. First three-hour race, first night race boxes ticked. After the event he said it “was an experience like no other. Louis had cleaned and serviced his bike like he was shown at the Regional Training Session, organised to borrow a set of lights and had set some goals, helping him achieve a successful ride.
Kaden and Abbott were in a pair, and both riders are gaining a lot of on-bike experience. Being in a team for their first night ride gave them a chance to familiarise with the trail during the day-light hours before the sun set. “My first ride in the dark and it was great, but I think I might need to get some bigger lights”, Abbott went on to complement the trails during his post-ride debrief.
Jock and Harrison also paired for the event and had a solid home-trail advantage regularly riding here with TAMMTB’s Twilight Series. Both agreed the team atmosphere was fun and racing at night under lights was tricky. But both were encouraged by their experience and would like to do more night racing in the future.
Lastly but our fastest team of the night was Ben, Rebecca and Angus. For this young crew of riders Ben managed the fastest lap of any team rider, “I enjoyed the experience of night riding, having fun with friends and getting to know new NIAS team members”. And Angus said, “the night ride was really fun and would love to do more”.
NIAS athletes are now off to Copeton for Inverell MTB Club’s 3/6hr before their NIAS Education weekend as Sport UNE.
